Personality (at least two good paragraphs):
Destiny loves power, for as long as she could remember she was drawn to men of status and wealth. It was the only way to guarantee survival all those years ago. Her desire for power and status often gets in the way of more important things in life. Destiny often becomes consumed by the desire to get what she wants, when she wants it. Destiny is often slightly paranoid about people backstabbing her and trying to sabotage her plans; years of working with corrupt humans made her constantly watch her back. There are very few she trusts and it takes a lot to earn, but very little to lose it. She's a powerful opponent and can be your best friend, or your worst enemy.
Well adapted in wrapping men around her finger, she has no problem being the trophy girlfriend; or at least that's the way she seems. Of course, she’ll always give her thoughts on a subject in a manner that makes people listen. Destiny is quiet manipulative, she has an uncanny ability to get her way 9 times out of 10. She has a fiery personality that you love to hate.
Strong willed would be an understatement if you were describing
Destiny, stubborn would possibly be a better term. She is a hard headed girl, but it has kept her alive over the years and helped her stay on top over her siblings. She is very quick witted and intelligent, Destiny knows what to do when the time is right and is very goal oriented. Unlike most of the girls her age, she educated herself, learning everything her brothers did; although her parents never knew anything about it. Although, she would never show it, Destiny is very insecure about almost everything she does. She hides her insecurities by playing up her attitude and cockiness.
Overall History (at least two good paragraphs):
Destiny was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. The only daughter of Michelle and Stephen Barker, she was the middle child; dealing with two hyperactive brothers who loved to torment the young girl. Stephen Barker was a traditional businessman, or so it seemed. Every day he woke up before dawn and went to work, always sure to say goodbye to his children before he left. Sometimes he wouldn’t come home for days at a time, constant business trips kept him from being a prominent figure in his children’s lives. Michelle wasn’t the type to ever win mother of the year; in fact, it didn’t really fit to call her a mother at all. She had been a stripper in her younger days, and the years that had passed didn’t treat her well. Michelle was unhappy with the life she was leading and her children paid the price.
Michelle was all about money and appearance, maybe that was where Destiny got her desire for money and status within her own life. Her mother wasn’t the affectionate type, preferring to tell her children to suck it up and wipe the tears away. From a young age, the Barker children learned that the only people they could depend on were themselves. Stephen came and went as he pleased, staying long enough to discipline his children and be on his way. He had no idea that Michelle was leading a less than respectable life; she had turned to cheating on her husband when he went on long business trips, sometimes for weeks at a time. Destiny and her brothers watch man after man come in and out of the house, each one worse than the last.
Their house was a modest one, larger than most of the ones on their street, but not noticeably so. Stephen always had a problem with sticking out in a crowd; he always wanted to blend in with everyone else and he made sure his lifestyle suited that desire. The Barker family lived in one of the more rundown neighborhoods in Brooklyn; often it wasn’t a safe place for the children to roam when the streetlights came on. Destiny often took to the streets whenever her mother brought one of the various men home; she had learned long ago not to bother getting to know them. Each one never ended up staying long and their stays got shorter and shorter as time went on.
Destiny and her brothers were close even by sibling standards. Being the middle child was rough enough; Jeremy was the pride and joy of the Barker family and Anthony was the baby. Destiny often slipped into the background, but that suited the girl just fine. She learned her own ways of standing out in a crowd. Jeremy and Anthony always gave Destiny a hard time, tending to roughhouse just a little too hard or poke too much fun before she could learn to hold her own against her brothers. They taught her how to fight, how to use her smaller size against her and soon she had earned their respect. As the years passed the Barker siblings became notorious around the Brooklyn area.
Jeremy had always been the biggest troublemaker of the three Barker siblings; usually getting the others into tricking situations none of they could weasel their ways out of. Anthony was the muscle, larger than his brother and sister with a much shorter fuse; he was ruthless when provoked and dangerous if not restrained. Destiny was often considered the most dangerous of the three Barker children. She was a sweet talker who could fool anyone into loving her; there weren’t many immune to her charm and the girl knew how to use it to her advantage from almost day one. When her brothers brought her out, Destiny could win over a crowd with a simple smile a batting of an eyelash. She was the mastermind of their antics and no one messed with her, unless you wanted to deal with Jeremy and Anthony. They ran the streets like gang members, making friends and handling enemies as they saw fit; clearly they were a force to be watched.
Of course, the Barker siblings got into their fair share of trouble. Their records were covered with everything from assault to vandalism and they had easily gotten a reputation among the local police force. They continued to get into worse and worse trouble and Stephen and Michelle seemed completely unaware of the things they were doing. The night of her 14th birthday Destiny had been roaming the streets of Brooklyn as she normally did on the warm weekend nights. Footsteps fell into line behind her as she rounded the corner and a large man stood at the other end of the tiny alley. The young girl stopped in her tracks, she had had her run in with the man before and as she turned around Destiny saw his plan go into motion. The man that fallen into step behind her ran toward her grabbing her and pushing her to the ground. Destiny struggled as fists dug into her sides and cheeks repeatedly; she screamed at the top of her lungs and a flash of light illuminated the air. The men were gone, leaving Destiny lying on the street with no idea what had happened.
Her fingers tingled and the nearby streetlight had been blown out. Destiny rubbed her hands together, watching the sparks that followed in awe. That day she learned what she truly was, a mutant. At only 14 Destiny new that she couldn’t go back home, it would only be a matter of time until word got around about what she was. That night Destiny left home, leaving her family behind with hopes of finding people who would accept her.
Writing Sample (4 good paragraphs OF THE CHARACTER YOU ARE APPLYING FOR):
“Get back here!”
They were right behind her, their yells and footfalls filling the air with a horrendous rhythm. Destiny sprinted down the street, casting worried glances over her shoulder only to see the shadows that lined the walls. A sharp pain wedged its way between her ribs and her breaths were only sharp bursts of fog in the cold night air. Another corner rounded, a block closer to safety; the girl pulled the sweatshirt from her shoulders, revealing a white tank top. Letting the sweatshirt fall to the ground, Destiny paused for only a second before sprinting across four lanes of traffic. The screech of tires and horns filled the air accompanied by New York accents screaming at her, but none of it kept her from moving forward. Hopefully it would slow the moron triplets down a bit.
As the headlights faded into the background, Destiny turned down another alley and within minutes the footsteps had followed. Why wouldn’t they give it up? she huffed angrily to herself. She only short circuited their car, and blew out the back windows; it wasn’t like she killed anyone, they hadn’t let her get that close. It wasn’t her fault that they couldn’t take a joke and thought they could take her down; so much for making friends. The steam from a manhole cover left a haze in the air, Destiny gaped at the wall at the end of the alleyway. Why the hell did the alleyway end? Of all the times to pick the wrong alley, it had to be now. Ice blue eyes flicked up the walls that closed in the alley, a fire escape hovered just feet above her head, slightly out of reach. Destiny skidded to a halt, gaze shifting from the wall to the three men that had just entered the alley.
“Come on, girlie. We ain’t gonna hurt ya,” the biggest of the three morons growled angrily, advancing on the small girl. She merely smiled and sprinted toward the wall, jumping and pushing herself toward the fire escape. It rattled beneath her touch and Destiny laughed in shock; she hadn’t actually expected it to work. Pulling herself up the ladder, Destiny climbed up onto the ledge with difficulty as the footsteps below came to a halt. “As much as I’d like to stay and chat I’ve gotta run boys,” she waved cheerily. Of course, Destiny’s happiness was brought to a screeching halt as the smallest of the three jumped the fire escape with no effort. The metal rattled as he landed mere steps away from her, he smiled wickedly as he stepped toward her.
A flash of light and the sound of the man hitting the ground below was all that followed. Destiny gazed over the side of the fire escape, her fingers creating shocks as they made contact with the metal. A smug smile crossed her features as she turned away to continue her way up the fire escape.
