Personality (at least two good paragraphs):
Scott Summers, by first impression, can seem to be a bit of an ass. However, he's a man that has endured many heartaches in his short years. He's very protective of people in the Mansion, thinking of them as his family. He can have a sense of humour, however, only people close to him are able to see it. He's very emotionally guarded, not one to speak of the past unless in the company of close friends. However, sometimes this guarded nature can lead to offense if you don't know Scott.
He's very no-nonsense, however, when in the company of Ororo or Jean, he easily drops the facade, and can become very friendly and fun. After his wife's 'death', however, he's become completely void of any sort of emotion.
Overall History (at least two good paragraphs):
Scott Summers was born the oldest child to Christopher and Katherine Summers in Anchorage, Alaska, with his only other sibling being a younger brother, Alexander. Scott had a happy childhood, free from his future constricting powers, as all children do, until one day when his father and mother were flying to their Cabin in Alaska. Their plane had mysterious engine troubles, and Christopher strapped the only parachuite to his oldest son's back and told him to grab his brother tight and not let go. Scott, distraught, refused to, however, his mother and his father kissed the Summers' children and shoved them out of the plane moments before it exploded.
Scott's powers emerged as they fell; the parachuite failed to open, and Scott's optic blasts lessened the fall to earth. However, Scott landed on his head, and was knocked unconcious for a week. As he awoke, his eyes started to glow, and the hospital staff realised that he was a mutant. They taped his eyes shut, but not before he blew a hole in the hospital wall. A few months after he had crashed, he was taken by Nathaniel Essex to Essex Orphanage in Nebraska, where secretly, Essex was testing children, and Scott. Scott endured a year and a half of blindness, and also had to endure the fact that his brother had been shipped to another orphanage. Scott does not remember much of the Orphanage, many of the memories are blank spots, however, he does remember Essex telling him that his brother had died.
He was taken by Charles Xavier to the Mansion, and along with Ororo and Jean, became the founding members of the X-Men. Scott spent a week in the mansion with tape over his eyes, having Ororo and Jean lead him around the mansion, until Charles brought him his first visor, opening his eyes to the world, and to the X-Men.
Writing Sample (4 good paragraphs OF THE CHARACTER YOU ARE APPLYING FOR):
It had been raining since 6 that morning. It was raining when they all filed out onto the grassy patch near the large tree. It had started to pour when Charles started speaking.
Thankfully, none of them could see what he was truely feeling. The byproduct of having tinted sunglasses was that no one could see the window to the soul. They saw his clenching jaw, his lips purse, but no one could really see.
Except them. Ororo came over, wrapping her arms around him, and thunder clapped overhead. He tried to calm her, bringing a hand up to her white hair, pressing against the back of her head. She told him that she was proud of him, that he was a true leader in the face of...whatever came his way. Scott moved, brushing her tears away, and told her it was all going to be okay. She didn't know what he did when no one was looking.
How he couldn't stay in that room anymore because of all the memories, the smells...the feelings. How he screamed and cursed the stars at night, only to hear them scream back at him in his dreams with her voice.
"Scott, can I speak with you?"
He wanted to tell him no. That he had to go make sure the students weren't getting into trouble, but Charles knew. So he followed his mentor in to the sitting room, seeing the tea already set up. "Sir--"
"Please. Five minutes."
With a sigh, Scott unbuttoned his suit jacket and sat down, moving to pour himself a cup of tea. He knew what was coming.
"I know where you've been going, my son."
"And? And what if I want to stay in Alaska?" Scott asked, though he flinched slightly at the harshness. "I can't--I can't stay here, Professor. I can't. I can't walk around these halls and--and remember when I first heard her voice. The first time she took my hand and lead me around the mansion because I couldn't see. I can't walk around and see the place right before the common room where we had our first dinner date on the steps because she had hurt her ankle in her heels coming down the stairs. I can tell you the exact spot where I kissed her for the first time, it's right outside her old room. I can't walk around these halls and be haunted by her."
"These halls need you, Cyclops."
"I need HER, don't you understand that? I need HER. Without her, I'm nothing."
