Rogue sat quietly on a bench in the park. It was far from the crowds, and nestled in a group of trees. She hadn't gone back to the mansion since she chickened out of getting the cure. Finding out all the X-men had lost their powers, wasn't exactly the best incentive either.
Figures. She thought to herself cynically. She had been the one who didn't want her powers, and now she was the only one who had them. Maybe she should go ahead and get the cure, then she could be one of them again, but something about going back didn't sit right. The way Storm had looked at her when she said she wanted the cure, the way Logan seemed to be ignoring her, and Bobby...Seeing Bobby with Kitty was what had pushed her over the edge to begin with. She didn't belong at the school anymore, she was an outsider since she got there, no matter what anyone said.
Standing up, and pulling the hood of her thick, green, wool coat over her head, she began walking. Destination, unknown.

The tall, very beautiful looking brunette carefully picked her way across the street, dressed completely in black despite the rather warm weather. Dodging around cars, she stepped up onto the sidewalk on the other side of the street, turning into the park.
Why not pay her daughter a friendly visit?
After all, mystique hadn't seen her since she had joined the little X-Men freaks. And with all this garbage about the cure, it made Mystique a bit curious as to whether or not Marie as chosen to take the cure or not.
As she got closer, she could make out Rogue's form, dressed in the hooded green coat just ahead. And with a smirk, ripples began over her body, starting at her head and spreading down ward, reverting back to blue scaly skin, flashing yellow eyes, and combed back orange colored hair. Her clothes seemed to melt into her body - it wasn't like she had anything to hide. With Magneto having power over New York, no one was going to bother a mutant - especially when she was Magneto's right hand.
Seeing as Rogue was leaving, Mystique darted forward, grabbing her coat sleeve, knowing better than to touch her bare skin.
"Going somewhere Marie?"

Marie was so focused on going unnoticed, force of habit really, that she nearly yelled when someone grabbed her sleeve. She heard an all too familiar voice speak, and someone say her name. Her real name. Wipping around to face the woman, with fire in her eyes.
"My name is Rogue." She corrected, pulling her sleeve away, and crossing her arms, "what d'you want anyways? Don't you got some sort of press conference or somethin' to go to?" Her tone was exasperated and defensive. Not only was this woman practically the second in command over the all of New York, she was the closest thing Marie had ever known to a mother.

"Funny, I'm pretty sure on your birth certificate, it says Marie." Mystique said, an amused smirk playing at her lips as she released Rogue's sleeve.
"What? I'm not allowed to check up on you?" She asked in a fake, hurt tone. "Or are you not speaking to me again?" Mystique continued.
"Besides - press conferences aren't really my thing." She added a second later after a moment's pause. Hell, Erik didn't even go to them - he just sent out messages about more mutants joining him and which city he was working to take over next, which just happened to be Washington D.C. He had left her in New York for now, babysitting the rest of the Brotherhood, who were just sitting on their lazy asses back at the base.
"So - did you take the cure? I figured that boyfriend of yours made you go and take it..." She said, her arms folding across her chest.

"Since when did you start carin' bout what was on my birth certificate?" Rogue challenged. Mystique might have raised her, and been the one who cared for her, but she wasn't her real ma, and no way would Marie let her forget it.
Giving her an uneasy look up and down, and then shrugging. "You can do whatever you want, jus' seems you ain't been too interested in checkin' up on me till now. Awfully convenient timing...." she trailed off.
"Well I do hope its you who don't like 'em, and not your almighty boss who's not lettin' ya. That'd hardly be a job I'd want." A small grin appeared, thinking maybe there was a chink in the armor somewhere.
Rogue's face hardened at the mention of the cure and Bobby. "Nobody made me do nothin'. I make my own decisions. If anybody ought to know that by now its you." Taking a deep breath and staring down at the cement by her feet. "I couldn't do it. I chickened out at the last minute....." Turning her attention to a gloved hand, and pulling at the fingers in no determinable pattern. "I'm not cured." Her voice was slightly sad now, still slightly regretting the choice, or lack there of.

Mystique simply shrugged, nothing more as she examined her dark blue nails with disinterest.
"Look - I may give a damn about the rest of those freaks you hang out with, but I raised you, so I can't help but wonder if you're still alive or not after Erik's takeover. Pardon me for actually caring." She muttered, staring Rogue down, her eyes flashing again.
"Why would I want to go to a conference anyway? They're boring as hell and filled with Homosapiens that I'd care not to associate with. If it was up to me, all of them here in New York - and eventually the world - would be dead." She hissed, the disgust for humans coming through in her bitter tone.
"Good - you don't need to be cured anyway. There's nothing wrong with being a mutant - of all people I'd think they'd teach you that at that school of yours." Mystique continued. "You don't see me complaining anyway......besides if you'd gotten rid of your powers, you couldn't join me - and Erik - in taking over."
"And yes, I'm here to ask you to join us."

"Well Sorry..." Rogue said, slightly taken aback that the woman was showing such interest. "Didn't realize you cared so much..." Giving her best attempts at a smile, which didn't last too long.
"Not all humans is bad." Marie said, gesturing out towards the crowds, "sure there's some who, weren't for intervention, might try'n eradicate us, but they ain't all like that."
"Yeah well you feel like you need to be cured when you can't touch nobody. You got any idea what its like not to be able to kiss your boyfriend? To worry about hugging people?" Now her tone was bitter, "If this is a gift then it sure ain't the best one I e're got." She was so focused on her rant it barely registered with her that Mystique was asking her to join the Brotherhood.
"What, you want me[/] to join the Brotherhood?" She asked, eyebrows raised, voice cracking just a bit. "I thought you guys hated the X-men....you certainly ain't the friendliest bunch I e're met...." Was she actually considering this? Why not? She couldn't go back to the school, and Magneto or no Magneto, New York still wasn't the most mutant friendly place one could live.
"Why me? If you do recall you and 'Erik' tried to use me to kill all them leaders. What's to say you wont do it again?"

She laughed bitterly. "Don't get used to it - and don't apologize. People who apologize for everything are weak."
"All humans are bad - they're not like us, you see. They're afraid of us, afraid we'll hurt them. And of course, most of us will hurt them." She added with a smirk. She was one of the many that would love to kill the humans, as she had stated earlier. The mutants would be better off with all of them dead.
"I don't worry about it because I don't touch people. They stay good and clear of me, and I'm perfectly fine about that." Mystique stated, her fingers drumming against her arm absentmindedly. They were afraid to touch her, afraid her blue skin might be some contagious disease or something. Hardly. "And you should be glad you are a mutant, and not one of these pathetic humans without powers. You have a gift that you can use - use very powerfully if you wanted to."
"Did I stutter? Yeah, I think you'd make a nice little addition to our large, rather disfynctional family." Mystique said in a fake happy tone, however, her non-smiling face did not change. "And we won't do it again. In case you forgot, Logan broke the machine. Besides, Magneto's too focused on his current plans than to do some pity stunt like that again."

Maybe she was right about humans. The professor had always had so much hope and faith in man even when they would try to kill the X-men after they had saved their lives. Maybe there really was no hope for humankind. "So you think just cos they might hurt us, we should hurt them first?" Rogue asked rhetorically. "May not be the nicest strategy...but it keeps you safe."
"Yeah, but you can if you want too!" Rogue disagreed. "You can turn into whatever shape is necessary and be able to touch people, kiss people..." she said sadly. Bobby didn't think he had put pressure on her, but she knew he was thinking it. Why stick with the girl you can't touch when there's Kitty.
Looking down at her hands and then balling them up into fists. "I never said it wasn't powerful. It just has as many drawbacks as it does advantages." Shoving her fists back into her pockets and staring sullenly back up at the blue woman.
"If I decided to join you..." Rogue's tone was tentative, testing, "you'd have to promise you wouldn't hurt my friends. They ain't got no powers now. They can't do anything...no need to hurt them." Giving a pointed look to Mystique. "I'm not one of them anymore, but I don't want anything happening to 'em."

"That's the general idea, yes." Mystique stated, rolling her eyes. "Because keeping yourself safe is pretty much what mutants have had to do for years - now that's not a problem."
"But I don't want to. That's the whole point." She continued, blinking at her for a moment. A wry smirk crossed her lips.
Like ripples in the water, her scaly blue skin began to change, until she was about Rogue's height, wearing a leather suit with X's all over it, outlined in pink. Brown hair was sloppily thrown up into a ponytail.
Kitty Pryde was suddenly standing next to Rogue, a devilish grin on her face.
"If I didn't know better Rogue I'd say you're a bit jealous."
"And if we were going to hurt them, we would have done it by now. They're humans now because they don't have powers, and they can either stay here and New York and accept mutant rule, or leave and try to escape mutant rule - which isn't going to happen." Mystique continued in Kitty's voice. "But I promise not to hurt a single hair on their heads."

Rogue's whole body tensed when Mystique shape shifted. Of all the people she could have taken the form of...even Bobby would have been better than her. Eys narrowing, as she clenched her jaw. An emotional reaction was obviously what Mystique was fishing for, and Marie'd be damned if she was gonna appease her.
"I ain't jealous." She muttered tersely, "ain't nothing to be jealous over. I'm happy for them." Rogue brushed it off expertly, hiding any emotions that might betray her statement.
Giving 'Kitty' one more wary look, and slowly extending a gloved hand out, to shake hers. "Well...if you promise." Slowly a dark smile formed on her lips. "Where do we start?"
(this mean I need a user group change at all? xD)
darkside pwns baby.

"Oh really?" She questioned, circling Rogue with another playful smirk. "You seem like it to me missy. Awful tense and rather angry looking at the moment....." Mystique said, smirking.
She stopped, long enough to shake Rogue's gloved hand. It seemed to cause as chain reaction, as soon Mystique was standing normal back in front of her, blue scaly skin and all. "We've got a deal then Marie.
"As for where we start, I suppose we get back to the base and introduce you to everyone. I think there's someone that you'll really like anyway - someone that'll make you forget about that Icee."

Rogue glared at Kitty as she stalked her like a buzzard. "Yeah. Really." She snapped, "look cut the crap Mystique, I ain't lookin' for games."
Finally the woman changed back, and shook her hand. A dark smile crossed Marie's face as the deal was sealed. She couldn't help but wonder if it was supposed to feel so good to associate with the 'bad guys'.
"I ain't interested in no boys." Rogue said with a roll of the eyes. "One pressurizing boyfriend was enough for me, thanks." Pulling her hood off, revealing the starkly contrasting red and white hair, after all she had nothing to fear now that she was with those in charge. Motioning for Mystique to lead the way, "well, c'mon then. Lets see this base o'yours."

"Just kidding Marie - take a joke."
"Oh, I think you'll like him. He's a rather big pain in my ass, but he's southern, just like you. Meet him at least." Mystique stated, smirking when Rogue pulled off the hood. She reached up, touching the strand of white for a moment, still remembering how she had gotten it. Mystique felt almost bad, them reminded herself it was all for the greater good, as Erik had said.
"Well, it's not exactly the most perfect place - a warehouse at the moment, but we're going to be moving somewhere better soon....as soon as we get the signal from Erik."

"So now I'm s'posed to like him just cos he's southern?" Rogue laughed sardonically, shaking her head. "I'll meet him but you shouldn't get your hopes up." Rogue had to admit anyone that could annoy Mystique so much had to be pretty admirable. The woman was irritatingly calm most of the time.
Rogue bristled as a blue hand reached up to her hair, and she could have sworn she might have seen something besides malice behind the familiar yellow eyes, but whatever it was, was gone before she could blink.
"A warehouse?" tone skeptical and questioning. "You have control of over all of New York City, and you're livin' in a warehouse?" She resisted the urge to laugh, instead shrugging, and putting her hands back into the coat pockets. "Well, beats a bench.." indicating the bench she had been staying on with a jerk of the head, "so which way is this warehouse of yours?"
